Focal Shift: A Tale of Maturing

Now as I continue to embark on this journey of life here in NY, I have come to realize a number of things about myself. My current disdain for social media (albeit, an on and off feeling lol), my ever increasing desire to grow spiritually, and coming to the realization that more than anything, I want to LIVE; to experience and be in the moment as it is happening.

My love for fashion and creating is still present, but the desire to try to make "A Name" For myself has subsided. I simply wish to continue to progress as a human being; becoming more culturally, and spiritually aware. To create clothing for myself, and if others happen to like it too, then great. Goals have changed. Life has been simplified, and things have become even more personal.

I invite you to follow my journey of growth, starting with this blog.

Exploring Coterie: TMRW

Living in NY has afforded me the opportunity to visit places I could only hope to visit while living in DC.  Luckily, I'm here now, and when I'm not working I get to go to cool fashiony artsy things. Last month was women's market week; a number of trade shows commence in the city where brands both notable and emerging share an enormous space to meet with potential buyers, and press.

It was the last day of the Coterie trade show, so I only had a few short hours (a few being 2 and a half) to explore. Prior to attending, I did a little research and knew that I specifically wanted to visit some of the brands at TMRW: "A showcase of  tomorrows premier brands, highlighting fresh talent and exceptional quality." My favorites were Singapore based designer brand Styl . myl.  China based Feorran, and Faro Islands Gudrun & Gudrun.

An Extension of Self: The Accessories

Just like the clothing we wear on our backs, the accessories we pair with them too define our personal style. Over the course of a few years, and some more recently, I've grown quite fond of a few choice accessories. I call this 'An Extension of Self ' because these pieces; in their own special way, give you a glimpse of who I am. A bit artsy, a lover of clean lines and minimalism, complex and simple at the same time." Style is saying who you are without having to speak a word", they say.

NYFW: Stylin on Em': William Okpo A/W 14 Presentation

Beauty and style were in abundance at 51 Astor Place for the presentation of Darlene and Lizzie Okpo's A/W collection. It was great seeing familiar faces, and of course meeting new ones.. PLUS I got to meet the ever so stylish Solange Knowles! She is a huge supporter and fan of the Okpo girls.

PS. I can't wait to share photos of the collection with you. Edited, and highly detailed.

Stylized: Sherman Joseph & Preston Williams of SHERMAN | PRESTON

Tell me about you: where are you from?
We're from New York, NY.

How old are you?
Age is limiting and we strive to be timeless. However, we are definitely old enough to drink but young enough to disregard the consequences.

What do you do?
Curating connoisseurs dabbling in the realm of fashion, art and overall creativity. Most notably, we are at the helm of SHERMAИ|PRESTOИ, a contemporary tailored brand conceptualized for the metropolitan man.

When did you know that Fashion was something you were passionate about?

Fashion resonated as a passion for us when we realized that the marketplace was unable to communicate to us as consumers. Cognizant of the budding era of like-minded fashionable men, it became evident that the industry’s inadequacy left this niche unsatisfied.  To help fill that void, we set out to cultivate endeavors that spoke to men not only aesthetically, but conceptually as well.

What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?

Our ability to turn ideas into reality. Transforming basic materials into works of art. Utilizing our opinions to create a vision that others have learned to share.
Simply amazing.

What advice do you have for others aspiring to do what you do?

Let your actions dictate your legacy.

Life quote: If there was one quote that summed up your view on life, what would it be?

“Just do it or shut  up."

How can we stay connected with you?

Avec Ces Feres | Art Comes First

Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of being in the presence of Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh of "Art Comes First" as they brought their tailored wears and sound aesthetic to Liberty Fairs. Watching Sam as he gave creative direction to the subjects posing in front of the camera. Styling subjects in their wears and suggesting poses; great energy to be around.

Liberty Fairs: Styling on Em'

Starting off the Liberty Fairs Fashion & Lifestyle Fairs recap with some fly individuals. Just a little bit of what I was able to capture in a few short hours. There was just so much to see; from amazing international brands, to amazing personal style. I'd say there was a mixture of Modern Gentleman, High Street, and Rustic. Take a Gander.

Gallery Day: KAWS & Yayoi Kusama

I'll be doing a lot more of this since I live in NY now. Off days will equal museum and gallery visits; one must soak up inspiration you know. A few weeks ago Nick and I ventured to Chelsea to check out the Kaws and Yayoi Kusama exhibits before they ended, and I must say; although a little cold.. I enjoyed the day immensely.

Recap: #HFRSolutions.. A Discussion

The 16th of December marked a great day for me personally. I've been living in NY for about a month now and Harlem's Fashion Row event was the first of many as I embark on this journey away from the comfort of family and the things I am familiar with. I learned a great deal from a number of talented individuals who've made a name for themselves in fashion. Touching on the subject of diversity in Fashion, or lack there of.. The audience had a chance to listen to these beautiful brothers and sisters speak on what their SOLUTIONS would  be.
