A Trip To the Hirshhorn

Trips to the museum are always a great way to become inspired, and I've been missing out not going on a more consistent basis. The Hirshorn has quickly become one of my favorite places to view contemporary art. Love at first sight.

Recap: The Launch of Neon V Magazine

First, let me just say how tremendously proud I am of these beautiful women. With a vision, hard work, and dedication you can accomplish anything. This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of attended the Launch for Neon V Magazine.

If you are not familiar, "neonV is a biannual magazine for the contemporary peculiar woman. assuming an uncanny perspective, the magazine offers women a compelling storyline of traditional and innovative content by exposing the cultural and subcultural continuums in fashion, art, beauty and travel." You can visit their website HERE.  The room was filled with nothing but love and beautiful, well dressed men and women. I'm a sucker for great style and beautiful faces lol.

Stylized: Mera Anwar of MIRI

Tell me about you: where are you from, how old are you?

Hi, my name is Mera Anwar 27, I am the designer behind the label MIRI. I graduated from Parsons New School of Design with a degree in Fashion Design. I’ve had the pleasure of working for amazing designers before I ventured off on my own with the label MIRI.

What do you do?

I design RTW contemporary women's clothing. The ideal MIRI woman is one who likes to reinvent the classics, whether it be an embellished collar or an asymmetrical hem. Most of my clients are all about appreciating the little details, from hand dyed ombre silks to sheer embroidered lace.

When did you know that Fashion was something you were passionate about?

Fashion design and the creative field in general has always been a huge part of my life. My late teenage years were when I really started to build my portfolio with hand sewn pieces, tapestries and some modern paintings.

What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?

I find myself making new accomplishments everyday, but if I were to pick something in particular... It would be when I moved to Paris to work for couture designer Jasmin Santanen. Aside from starting my own line, I'd say my time in Paris what truly inspired me to make my dream a reality.

What advice do you have for others aspiring to do what you do?

I would encourage all aspiring artists to be diligent, determined, and always curious. The world of fashion can appear cyclical to some but designers are in a constant state of change and improvement.

Hayden Williams for Sketch Street

Now if you follow me on instagram or twitter, you may come to know that I am obsessed with this young illustrator and designer Hayden Williams. I first learned of him through twitter, which then lead to him becoming my very FIRST Stylized Feature ( Here). Since then, it's been a rap and I have been following his progress ever since.

His most recent accomplishment has been his collaboration with Sketch Street. Where we, the consumer have a say in what pieces will make it into production by pre-ordering from the site. Check out my favorite pieces from his collection, I know you all are going to LOVE it!

Refinery 29 X Me

Many may have seen, some probably not... But I am beyond thrilled and honored to have been featured on Refinery 29 DC's " 1 girl 4 looks" segment. When Holly reached out to me, it was another one of those " Is this really happening right now" moments lol. For some reason I always seem to downplay what it is that I do, or am doing. Is there a such thing as being too humble? I'll let ya'll answer that.

Moving on, these are my favorite photos and probably my favorite outfit from the shoot we did.

Playing Dress Up with Via Gypset

I've been a horrible blogger ya'll, I's sorry lol. It's just been a bit busy and I haven't had the chance to attend any local events or take pictures of my outfits or anything.. Oh and by the way, what do you all think about the updated layout? Yay, nay? Lemme know.

Back to the point of this post, a month or two ago the lovely Cheralee asked me to shoot for this brand new consignment/vintage boutique that just opened up in Woodley Park and I couldn't say no. Via Gypset is one of the CUTEST botiques I have ever been in, with some amazing inventory. The owner Isabel is super nice, and I had an amazing time working with everyone.

Stylist Chronicles: For Kas Collection, Inc

A few months ago I was asked to put together a shoot for the new WET (With Exceptional Taste) denim lookbook. I was in charge of it all. Hair, makeup, models, concept.. the whole nine. While I am honored that my boss had that much trust and faith in me to complete such a task, I know with out a doubt that this shoot for me could have been a lot better. But hey, I'm still growing and there is always room for improvement. Tell me what you think! Below are my favorite shots.

I wanted to keep the concept simple focusing all attention on the denim itself. I kept makeup very minimal, and styling minimal as well. It wasn't about the outfitm it was strictly about the denim. See the full book at www.kascollectioninc.com

Event: The Dewdrop Glitter Glam Swap & Shop

Ladies, if you don't have anything planned for this upcoming Saturday, now you do. I was invited to attend this event, but unfortunately I won't be able to so of course I am just spreading the word. Come out and support local businesses enjoy a few cocktails, a fashion show, a bit of shopping, and all around good time. I hope to attend one in the very near future as I've seen some great recaps from past events, and it always looks like so much fun!

Tell me about you: where are you from, how old are you?

I’m originally from Pasadena. A 25 year old Californian living in New Orleans.

What do you do?

I’m a creator of experience, evoker of emotion. On paper though, I’m an artist, wearable artist, jewelry designer, and I teach children how to express themselves through jewelry when the opportunity arises. I create bamboo sconces and wearable art.

When did you know that Fashion was something you were passionate about?

The root of my experience has been the artistic process of the work but to pursue the fashion aspect of my work, I decided in June after visiting Paris for a Fashion Weekend Show I participated in, the architecture was truly inspiring and I decided that I could fuse the two together.

What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?

My biggest accomplishment was selling my work at Labo Ethnik International Show of New Designers in Paris, France. I was invited last minute and worked extremely hard to get the funds and inventory to present my work.

What advice do you have for others aspiring to do what you do?

My advice: Go with your gut. It’s your individual compass for your life’s journey. Even when it looks like it’s impossible, jump off that cliff and give it a try.

Life quote: If there was one quote that summed up your view on life what would it be?

Envision it, Act from it, Be it….“Act on the assumption that you already possess that which you sought.”
